Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

  1. What is the difference between an Overland and an Expedition Truck?
A: An Overland Truck is used for long distance overland travel over existing roads staying relatively close to existing infrastructure.
An Expedition Truck is is used for travel and stays in regions with little to no infrastructure, requiring more autonomy, redundancy and off-road capabilities. Overland Trucks can be based on 4x2, 4x6 or AWD truck chassis, while Expedition Trucks are always AWD 4x4, 6x6 or 8x8 trucks.

  2. Why are there often no prices listed?
A: We operate in an international market with complex fiscal & regulatory rules for Custom Made trucks.
We provide fiscal & regulatory information together with the truck price by email depending on your country of residence. The truck price can include substantial fiscal components that need extra explanation for a foreign prospect buyer to make an objective comparison. This also means that the actual Costs of Ownership in your country can be significantly different compared the price of the truck alone. For instance the modifications (not only taxes) required to get a license plate in your country of residence may be substantial even up-to an unfeasible level. The truck may even not be eligible for a license plate in your country of residence, invalidating any price comparison altogether.

  3. What is the netto price?
A: Is the price excluding VAT (when possible) and excluding Import duties and fees elsewhere.
Do note that most trucks are in private ownership with the VAT irreversibly paid.

  4. What's the kind of drivers license I need for an Expedition Truck?
A: In most countries a valid Truck Drivers license (C1 / C / Class 3 / HGV) is required to drive a truck above 3.5 Tons

  5. Is it easy to obtain a license plate for an Expedition or Overland Truck in my country?
A: Import & Registration proceedings for Custom Made vehicles are often complex and require a dedicated approach.
We can suggest to consider our Truck Evaluation Service for an in-depth view into the import & registration processes of your country.

  6. Is it easy to obtain a truck Driver's License?
A: In the European region one needs to pass 3 exams + 1 medical test, provided a valid European passenger car license is available.
The average lead-time for a truck drivers license in Europe sits between 2-3 month. (all exams passed on the first go)
The truck drivers license in the European region is required for any vehicle above 3.5 Tons.
Most countries require the driver to have a truck driver's license for heavy trucks.

  7. Can I insure my truck All-risk world-wide?
A: Off-road driving is often excluded from All-Risk vehicle insurance coverage.
Expedition & Overland trucks are vehicles with an inherent high risk profile.
If there would be a world wide vehicle insurance, the annual fee would be unfeasibly high
If you can obtain All-Risk coverage, it's a regional coverage, meaning it becomes void when leaving the region
For worldwide journeys, vehicle insurance is often bought at the border with 3rd party coverage only

  8. Can I rent an Expedition or Overland Truck?
A: Offroading is associated with a high risk profile - same as traveling in countries with poor infrastructure.
To cover the risk of Total Loss, consequently the deposit and the insurance fee would be unfeasibly high.
Next to this, the replacement lead-time can easily amount to 1.5+ years or more in case a truck needs to be fully replaced.
In all this makes rental of Expedition or Overland Truck unfeasible for both parties involved.

  9. Can I finance an Expedition or Overland Truck?
A: This question is often related to All-Risk Vehicle insurance to cover Total Loss.
Offroading is associated with a high risk profile - same as traveling in countries or regions with poor to non existing infrastructure.
This means that offroading or leaving the region with All-Risk Vehicle insurance coverage exposes the owner as well as the lender to an increased risk.
Embarking on a world journey with a financed vehicle may require the explicit consent of the lender.

  10. How long does it take to have an Expedition or Overland Truck manufactured?
A: On average a project at a professional manufacturer can easily take 1.5+ year, provided the overall design is already available.
There are many parameters that influence the actual production lead-time.
A fixed price, fixed time and fixed functionality project requires a high professional maturity of the manufacturer.
Often this takes years to master with several projects running in parallel.

  11. Can you ship an Expedition Truck to my country?
A: Buying a complex vehicle like an Expedition or Overland Truck unseen is unusual.
A technical description or picture presentation can not replace the experience of actually seeing and driving the truck yourself.
Therefor we highly recommend to see and test drive the truck before its purchased and shipped elsewhere.
In this market an Expedition or Overland Truck is only shipped elsewhere, once it is already fully paid.
We can assist in the shipping procedures once the truck is in your full ownership.

  12. I own a conventional holiday motorhome, can I trade-in my motorhome for purchase of an Expedition or Overland Truck?
A: This depends - most owners of Expedition or Overland Truck are not particularly interested in a trade-in proposal.
You may want to consider calling us for a quick assessment if we can assist you.
