This Mercedes-Benz Arocs is an agile, compact 4x4 with a full home for two, five registered seats and three years of real travel behind it. Tested, documented and ready to go.

Agile and compact – by design

The chassis was chosen for agility, not maximum size. With a 3.90 m wheelbase, single tyres and a total length of  7.70m (8.95 m with the rear carrier), the truck turns tightly and stays manoeuvrable on mountain passes, forest tracks and old village streets – the places where longer trucks have to stop or turn back. At approx. 3.66 m high, it stays below the 4-metre limit of most European roads, with extra room for overhanging branches.

The compact size does not mean a compromise inside. The 4.90 m living unit offers a fixed transverse double bed, a full kitchen with oven, a large dinette, and a separate shower and toilet. The layout is efficient: the entrance doubles as the shower, so no space is lost to a hallway.

A modern platform – not a project

This truck is built on a factory-new Mercedes-Benz Arocs 1835, ordered in 2021 and first registered in 2023. You buy a recent, well-specified truck with modern driving comfort – not a chassis that needs work before you can leave.

  • Current technology: Euro VI-D engine, PowerShift 3 automated gearbox with off-road programme, and modern driver assistance.
  • Overland specification from the factory: permanent 4x4 with off-road reduction, three differential locks, fuel pre-heating, an extra fuel pre-filter, an insect grille in front of the radiator, a dust filter for the cab, and cab-tilt hydraulics rated for extreme cold. The truck was specified for long journeys from day one.
  • Global support: parts and workshops through the worldwide Mercedes-Benz truck network.

Five registered seats – rare in this class

Most overland conversions are registered for two or three people. This truck is registered as a motorhome (M1) for five: three seats in the cab and two forward-facing, belted seats in the living unit. The seats in the living unit are mounted on an engineered, certified frame that meets EU rules for custom seating.

What this means in practice:

  • Family and friends can join: they travel legally and safely. The dinette converts into a guest bed, and the cab has an extra sleeping conversion.
  • A local guide can ride with you: the registered centre seat in the cab is ideal for regions where a guide is mandatory.
  • Future flexibility: plans change. Five seats keep more options open – and make the truck more attractive when you sell it later.

Tested and validated

This truck has already been through its shakedown years. For three years it travelled on Icelandic highland tracks, Danish beaches and European roads. The owner is a certified 4x4 driving trainer, who drove and maintained the truck with a professional's eye.

  • Serviced by Mercedes-Benz dealers: on the official schedule, including axles, gearbox and transfer case.
  • Real weights, not estimates: the truck was weighed in travel configuration, with the axle loads documented.
  • Complete documentation: factory order data, build and conversion documents, floorplan, spare-parts lists and full service history.

The architecture behind it

  • Spring-mounted, galvanised subframe: separates the twisting truck chassis from the living unit, so the living unit stays stable on rough terrain.
  •  Solid-wood living unit: a breathable, foam-free wood construction with wood-fibre insulation, instead of the usual foam-core composite. It buffers humidity and reduces condensation – see the Top Interior tab above.
  • Independent energy concept: a 24 V lithium system with large solar capacity and charging while driving. Heating and hot water run on diesel or electricity. Gas is used only for cooking, so you do not depend on refilling gas bottles abroad.
  • Large crawl-through hatch: a sealed passage between the cab and the living unit. You can move to the driver's seat without stepping outside.

Who is this truck for?

If you have spent months comparing overland trucks, you know the usual trade-off: a big, comfortable living unit on a heavy truck that struggles on narrow tracks, or a nimble truck with a cramped interior. This Arocs avoids that compromise. It is made for a couple who want a real home on the road – a proper bed, a full kitchen, a bathroom with a separate shower – in a truck that stays agile in the mountains and still fits on a ferry. It brings modern Mercedes-Benz technology, it is ready to travel today, and it gives you the freedom to take guests along whenever you like.

This overland truck is designed first as a comfortable long-term home for two travellers. It is also flexible: when family or friends join you, there is room for guests. Here are the features that make daily life on the road easy.

Sleeping

  • Fixed double bed at the rear, approx. 2.00 × 1.50 m – no daily bed-making from the seating
  • Two separate mattresses on adjustable slatted bases
  • Warm-air outlet under the bed
  • Wardrobe, overhead cabinets and shelves next to the bed

Living and working

  • Large dinette with a sturdy, height-adjustable table
  • Large Samsung screen – use it as a TV or as a monitor for working
  • 230 V, 12 V and USB sockets in the living and kitchen area
  • Storage inside the seat benches

Kitchen

  • 3-burner gas hob with oven
  • Approx. 195-litre compressor fridge with separate freezer

  • Separate toilet room with Clesana toilet – no water and no chemicals needed
  • Mineral-cast washbasin with household-quality tap
  • Electric towel radiator
  • Smart entrance-bathroom layout: one door closes either the toilet room or the passage to the living area

  • Truma Combi D6E heating and hot water – runs on diesel or on electricity
  • Truma Saphir Compact air-conditioning in the living unit
  • Automatic air-conditioning in the cab
  • Control the heating and the energy system from your phone (Truma iNet X and Victron apps)

Outdoor living

  • Slide-out terrace platform at the entrance: 1.20 m wide, extends in three steps up to 1.80 m
  • Removable railing with safety rope and a foldable aluminium staircase
  • Short platform position for ferries and small parking places
  • Modular outdoor kitchen in the storage compartment
  • Outdoor shower connections on both sides
  • Electric rear carrier (400 kg): spare wheel, two e-bikes and lockable aluminium boxes

Travelling with guests

  • Extra sleeping conversion in the cab, approx. 1.75 m
  • The registered middle seat in the cab is useful in countries where a local guide must travel with you

  • LED work lights on the mirrors, a roof light bar and a lower front light bar

Mercedes Arocs 4x4 Overland Truck on a journey

Open the door and you notice it right away: this does not feel like a vehicle. It feels like a small wooden house. Warm, calm and natural.

Real wood, everywhere you look

The walls are untreated, knot-free white fir. The furniture is oak. The ceiling is light wood, with warm indirect LED light along the edges. In the evening the whole room glows softly. There are no plastic panels and no cold, shiny surfaces.

Walls that breathe

The solid-wood walls are filled with natural wood-fibre insulation. They contain no artificial foam, and the main wood structure is built without glue. The wood takes in moisture from the air and releases it again later.

For daily life this means:

  • Less condensation on cold mornings
  • A balanced, pleasant indoor climate – in cold and humid weather, and in the heat
  • Fresh air, with fewer synthetic materials around you

A home for two

The layout gives each of you your own space. One of you can work at the large dinette table while the other cooks at the oak worktop. At night you sleep in a fixed double bed of approx. 2.00 × 1.50 m, with two separate mattresses on adjustable slatted bases. No bed to build, no cushions to move – just a real bedroom at the rear.

A bathroom you will enjoy

The shower has real slate walls and a wooden floor. The toilet is in its own room, with a mineral-cast washbasin and a warm towel radiator. After a cold day outside, it feels more like a small spa than a camper bathroom.

Made for long journeys

On a long overland trip, you spend many days and nights inside your truck. That is when the interior matters most. This living unit is a place to rest after a long day's drive, to work, to cook and to sleep well – wherever you are in the world.
